A bit about Graeme and BSC from the man himself
My main love in life is photography and it is my full-time job. It’s safe to say I have my dream job! I’m in my early forties. I currently live in Newcastle, where I was born and bred. I have been working as a professional photographer for many years and have been published internationally with my photojournalism, event, video production and portrait work.
I run the Newcastle upon Tyne based photography and video services company BSC Weddings Limited.
How did you get into wedding photography?
“I photoed my first wedding in 2012 for a good friend how kindly trusted me to capture his big day and (frankly) it was quite a terrifying experience. Now looking back I’ve found that I thrive in the challenging environment of a wedding, it can be quite an exhilarating experience and really pushes you creatively like no other area of photography I’ve worked in.
From that day I think I’d caught the bug and continued to do weddings for friends and referrals from customers. Around 2015 I began to take things to the next level and from then I managed to build cover up to 10 weddings a year, which was tough as I was still working full-time in other sectors.
In 2019 I finally decided to make my dream a reality, investing my life savings in the business and camera equipment! I left my job to become a full-time wedding and portrait photographer. It was a scary move but it now means I can now photo/video around 40 weddings per year and dedicate my time to providing customers with a fab service.
It is really the best job (even with recent challenges to the wedding industry!) I’ve ever had and it’s quite amazing to see how much my work has changed and continues to evolve as I dedicate myself to wedding coverage.
I absolutely love wedding photography. There’s nothing like the excitement you get when you hand over the finished photos and see the couple’s reaction! “Graeme J Baty – June 2021

Equipment info (the nerdy bit!)
We’re a bunch of camera nerds at heart and have spent a lot of time researching and investing in the best gear for the job. We use modern all digital equipment. As of 2021, we’re now fully mirrorless, which allows for greater quality, accuracy, and detail.
We try to keep equipment to a small footprint on the day, so as not to get in the way of the proceedings and allow us to have a natural documentary style.
Photography main equipment
Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6 and backup camera Canon EOS R
In addition to these for full-day bookings, we also have use of a Fuji X100v for some stunning and cool film simulations!
And of course our ever-popular Fuji Instax camera!
Canon EOS R (x2) and Canon EOS R6.
Rode wireless mics, Zoom digital recorders. Plus various sliders and lights.
From 2021 onwards we’re using prime lenses exclusively for a more pleasing and creative aesthetic.
Main lenses 20mm, 50mm, 85mm. Additional lenses for different scenarios 14mm, and 135mm.
Flash photography and softboxes
We use flash very sparingly on your day, with 99% of the day will be captured using natural light. We are acutely aware that flash is distracting to you and your guests and will use it only when necessary. After all our style is documentary and the best photos tend to be the moments when people don’t know they’re being photoed 🙂
For full-day bookings and evening parties we will set up 3 light stands with remotely operated triggers around the venue. Again this is used sparingly but allows us to work in even the darkest of venues with ease.
We use special techniques to give you the most dramatic and beautiful images using off-camera flash along with colour gels for that amazing studio photography style pop!
Examples of our off-camera flash techniques. If you are booking a full day package this allows us much more time to get creative and get some stunning portraits for you to treasure.
